Convenient Family Law Assistance in Los Angeles

If you are representing yourself in a family law case in Los Angeles County, you already know the challenge. Between the Stanley Mosk Courthouse downtown and the court branches in Chatsworth, Torrance, Pasadena, Pomona, Long Beach, Van Nuys, and Santa Monica, LA County has the largest and busiest court systems in the country. Navigating it without an attorney can be overwhelming.

Of course, hiring a traditional full-service family law attorney in Los Angeles can require a retainer of $10,000 or more just to get started. For many litigants dealing with a divorce case, custody dispute, or support matter, that’s just not a realistic option.

The Law Office of Dan Sweeney offers a practical alternative: affordable, limited-scope family law services designed specifically for self-represented litigants. Instead of an expensive retainer and open-ended hourly billing, we work on a flat-fee, session-based model that makes experienced attorney guidance and assistance an affordable and practical option.

Limited-Scope Representation Makes Sense for LA Litigants

Limited-scope representation, also called unbundled legal services, allows you to hire an attorney for a specific task rather than your entire case. This type of service allows us to offer our help, like drafting your initial divorce pleadings or your request for custody and visitation orders, when and where you need it most in your case.

You keep control of your case and your budget while getting the benefit of experienced legal assistance where it matters most.

For Los Angeles family law litigants, our video conference sessions means you’ll never have to fight LA traffic or find parking just to meet with your attorney. You connect from wherever works for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. All sessions are conducted by secure video conference. You can participate from anywhere in California. Los Angeles County litigants receive the same level of service without having to travel.

It depends on the issues your case involves. Most uncontested divorces will typically require at least two 90-minute sessions to cover initial pleadings and financial disclosures before a final 120-minute session is scheduled. Some cases require additional sessions. During our initial session we’ll discuss issues and expectations.

Our standard sessions focus on document preparation and legal guidance. We do not make court appearances as part of our limited scope model.

Limited-scope services work well for many family law matters, but they are not the right fit for every situation. If your case involves complex asset tracing, business valuations, contested custody evaluations, or serious domestic violence issues, full service representation may be more appropriate. We will let you know during your session if we think you need more comprehensive help.
