Convenient Family Law Assistance in Fresno and Central Valley
If you’re facing a divorce, custody dispute, or other family law matter in the Central Valley, finding affordable legal help can be a real challenge. Most of the Valley’s family law attorneys require substantial initial retainers and charge high hourly rates.
The result is that a large percentage of Central Valley family law litigants represent themselves. In Fresno County, the majority of parties in family law cases appear without an attorney. If you are one of them, you are not alone, and you do not have to do it entirely on your own.
The Law Office of Dan Sweeney provides affordable, limited-scope family law sessions to litigants throughout the Central Valley. For $225 per session ($175 with a current fee waiver order or qualification under Sections 5a or 5b of the Request to Waiver Court Fees (FW-001)), you’ll participate in a 60-minute video conference with an experienced California family law attorney who will help you decide on the right course of action and prepare the documents you’ll need to constructively move your case forward

One of the challenges for Central Valley litigants is geographic distance. If you live in any of the smaller communities throughout the Valley, getting to a family law attorney’s office can mean a long drive and time away from work or family.
Our video-conference sessions eliminate that problem. You connect from wherever you are, whether that is your home in Clovis, your office in downtown Fresno, or your kitchen table in Tulare. All you need is a computer or mobile device, an internet connection, and documents relevant to your case.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Our video-conference sessions are available to litigants anywhere in California. Whether your case is filed in Fresno County, Kern County, Madera County or Tulare County, we can help you prepare the paperwork you need.
I worked at the Family Law Facilitator’s Office for many years and understand the reasons for limiting the scope of their assistance. Unlike the Facilitator’s Office, we form attorney-client relationships which allows us to take a broader scope in our case involvement and to offer advice and case strategy in a way that is impossible for a self-help office to provide.
It depends on complexity. A straightforward, uncontested divorce will typically require at least two 90-minute sessions to cover initial pleadings and financial disclosures before a final 120-minute session is scheduled by our office. Some cases require additional sessions. During our initial session we’ll discuss issues and expectations.
The session fee covers the full 90-minute session including filing and service instructions. The only additional costs might be court filing fees (paid directly to the court) or add-on services you select, like e-filing or service of process through a third-party vendor. We do not have hidden charges.
Fresno Superior Court’s website notes that it favors limited-scope representation as a way for litigants to access professional legal help while managing costs. It is a recognized and respected legal option in Fresno County.
